Many dishes, fruits, sauces and so on… got ‘labeled’ in one way or another. To be honest, I think that rice definitely didn’t get the place of honor in the west as it has in Asia. In the west rice is nothing more then a side dish you eat with other dishes. or at best mix it with something. I guess the whole concept of rice, or ‘the pyramid of rice’ (just made that up) is reversed in Asia, were rice is the main food and the other dishes (such as meat, curries, etc…) come in small quantities and usually on top of the rice. Lao-Lao is definitely one of the stronger spirits out there. Last week I went back to Laos. For those of you who don’t know where it is, it’s a beautiful country filled with mountains and smiling people located between Thailand, Burma, China and Vietnam.
In my memory Laos was the cherry at the top of the cake in the list of countries I’ve visited in my travel to Asia 8 years ago. So few weeks ago I went to my sister’s place and found a fridge that had echoes in it. When I was a kid, whenever we would complain to my mom that there’s actually nothing in the fridge her answer was the same ” the fridge is not empty, rather have many raw materials”, Which was true. but as kids we didn’t really like cooking and wanted to eat the second we got the craving for something. I look at the olive oil trend that flocked the world starting the early years of 2000 with a smile.
honestly one may think that the olive oil is a ‘new thing’ and was ‘discovered’ recently by a few researchers from Colombia university or so. However, some of you might be surprised by the fact that it was one of the oldest ingredients civilization have cultivated and used throughout the centuries. So I would say that it is more of an ‘Ah-ha’ moment for the western world, since olive oil goes back to the biblical times. Read more... (550 words, 1 image, estimated 2:12 mins reading time)
