Sometimes we just get lucky in life…. Being in the right place at the right time (or something along those lines)

There’s nothing like being in the center of a happening when you’re abroad. Suddenly all the tourist attractions minimize compared to this cultural flow the floods you when attending any local fiesta festivals happen here and there,
and as a foreigner you get to hear about the big ones, but not always about the important ones.

Long roads could mean hell for some people and heaven for truckers, hitchhikers and backpackers.

Not that i’m suggesting that staying in a ‘chicken bus’ in a third world country that has no air-con, fan or even windows for 12 hours is tons of fun all the time, but it does puts things in perspective when it comes to our on going ‘whining’ on some discomforts in life.

The secret to your own personal sanity beyond an mp3 player and a book is the food that you’ll find along the way/on your arrival and a good shower.  In my case, the longer I travel the simpler the food I crave for.

No doubt about it, Sichuan province in China  is definitely a paradise for those crazy ones (including myself) that would go to any extreme to find the spiciest food they can get their hands on.  It’s just brilliant, everything here comes with chillies, but not the ones you know.
I bet most of you are probably thinking to yourself “too much chillies in your food kills the flavor”…. well, if you are among one of the following groups: Space vegans, French or just ‘sissies’, I and tons of others like me beg to differ!.
Spicy food is way more then just something that burns your mouth.  I mean, if one tiny chili makes you sweat and bet for a ‘new mouth’ implant than you might not enjoy Sichuan culinary kitchen to its full extent.

Over the last 2 weeks I was wondering around the Philippines. Doing some Island hopping, diving and off course searching for gastronomic treasures.
There’s a good chance that I didn’t reach any ‘culinary enlightenment’ of any sort in the Philippines (and trust me, I tried real hard to find great, unique or tasty food
But that’s irrelevant.
